Operating a small business is a huge feat for a small team. Administering all the backend issues, like payroll, licenses, taxes, rental agreements, and contracts is enough for 10 people. Technology is an issue the leader of Uncommon Redesigns, my wife Charie Williams, doesn’t have to worry about, as that’s the one thing I’m more than capable of handling.
Our setup is simple enough: Two projectors capable of mirroring an image or video remotely, similar capability for two flatscreen televisions, a ceiling-mounted webcam, capable of broadcasting a live feed to any of the above-mentioned devices or live-streamed to the internet, and finally security cameras that store data locally and remotely.
Detailing step by step how this was accomplished is a bit much for this post, but what I’ll say is that we were operating at peak creativity when developing these solutions within budget. We relied heavily on parts and material we already owned, like HDMI splitters and Google Chromecast, and utilized free capabilities, like Dlink’s FTP capability to ensure our security videos were safely transmitted and stored.
Below is an image of the mirrored image across three of four screens.
